In the monsoon the air is damp and roofs leak. Damp feed goes mouldy, and mouldy feed can make your fish ill. A little care keeps it good.
| Do | Do not |
|---|---|
| Keep feed in a dry, airy room | Store it where the roof leaks or the floor floods |
| Raise bags on a pallet or platform | Leave bags on the floor |
| Leave a gap between the bags and the wall | Push bags against damp walls |
| Use the oldest bags first and check the date | Keep a large stock for the whole season |
| Close a bag again after you open it | Leave opened bags uncovered |
Where to keep it
- A dry, airy room. Not a place that floods or where the roof leaks.
- Off the floor, on a pallet or a raised platform.
- Away from the walls, so air can pass behind the bags.
- Away from fuel, fertiliser and chemicals.
How to handle it
- Use the oldest bags first. Check the date on the bag.
- Close a bag again after you open it, and keep it off the ground.
- Do not stack the bags too high or too tight.
- Buy the amount you will use soon, not a large stock for the whole season.
Check before you feed. Look at the feed and smell it. If it is clumped, damp, mouldy or smells bad, do not give it to the fish. Throw it away, and tell the supplier if the bag was already damp when you bought it.
